For history buffs, Jordan hosts well preserved ancient sites from several civilisations including the Greco Roman site of Jerash, Nabatean Petra, the Umayyad ‘desert castles’ and the Crusader castles of Kerak, Ajloun and Shobak, as well as important Biblical sites like the Baptism Site at Bethany and Mount Nebo.
